The Dentist Can Be Fun!

If you have small children that you have to take to the dentist, you may be putting it off because you aren't looking forward to the drama that can come with bored children. However, dental visits aren't something that you should procrastinate, so you'll want to think of some things you can do to make the situation go as smoothly as it can. Here are a few helpful ideas for you to try that can make the visit more fun for the kids and easier on you.

Bring a portable DVD player and a new movie they picked out

Most parents have a portable DVD player. If you don't already have one, you should really consider making the small investment. Portable DVD players allow you to turn on your kid's favorite movies and cartoons when you need to keep them occupied. They are great for long car rides, camping trips and yes, doctor and dental visits. The best thing to do is take them to the store ahead of time so they can pick out an exciting new movie. Don't let them watch it until you are at the dentists. This way, they will be very into it and it should keep their full attention the whole time you are in the waiting room.

Let them bring their tablet or iPad

You may have very strict rules regarding when they can play on their tablet or iPad, or maybe they don't have one. Whether you have rules regarding theirs, or you are going to have to let them borrow yours for the visit, access to a tablet or iPad can make things go a whole lot smoother in that dentist's waiting room. They can use it to watch funny videos, to play fun games, or even to read fun stories. No matter what they do on it, this means a nice quiet dental visit for you.

Bring travel games

You can purchase travel packs of games that include smaller versions of popular games. This is an easy way to bring a number of games with you. You can bring connect four, scrabble, checkers, and other games that you guys can play while you are in the waiting room. If you have brought more than one child to the dentist with you, then they can play these games with one another to happily pass the time while you wait.
